Marguerite Sinkler Valk was an interior designer and preservationist. She was born in Charleston, SC in 1894. In the 1930s, she was recognized for being one of the top interior designers of the nation. Valk founded an organization, Friends of old Charlestowne, dedicated to raising funds for restoration and preservation projects in the area. She was also part of many other preservation and activism groups such as the Preservation Society of Charleston and the Charleston County League of Women Voters.
Valk was married to Courtney Valk and together they had one daughter, Marguerite. Valk passed on February 3, 1979, and was buried in Saint Philip's Episcopal Church Cemetery.
