Marble statue depicting pilgrim woman holding a bible, positioned in the center of fountain structure. Granite ring surrounding fountain with attached metal plaques featuring embossed text. Created in 1926 by sculptor Carl Paul and architectural firm McKim, Mead and White.
The memorial is located in Plymouth, MA, across from the Pilgrim Memorial State Park. The monument was originally approved for construction by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution around 1922, as a commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the Mayflower and the heroic women part of it's journey. The monument was officially dedicated on June 25th, 1925.
In 2019, nearly a century after its original unveiling, funding was put towards the cleaning and repairing of the statue and fountain in preparation of the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower. A celebration of this anniversary took place on November 14th, 2020, and included the monuments official rededication as a part of it.
