Carpenter Gothic style cottage home. Built in 1865 by Josiah Flint Willard.
Tiered sign located in front of the home featuring gold text.
The house is located in Evanston, IL. It was the home to Willard from 1874 up until her death in 1898. She would refer to this house as "Rest Cottage," a name it continues to hold today. During her time living there, Willard was an active reform crusader, founding the World's Woman's Christian Temperance Union. She was also named the first dean of the Woman's College of Northwestern University.
Willard left Rest Cottage to the W.C.T.U. upon her death, and they have since utilized it as their national headquarters, as well as a museum dedicated to Willard's life. They continue to maintain the appearance of the home to resemble how it looked prior to her passing. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark on June 23rd, 1965, marked as such by the sign positioned in front of the home.
