19th-Century clapboard white farmhouse with green shutters. Built by Henry Warner in 1836.
The house is located on Constitution Island, in West Point, NY. It was home to the Warner sisters from 1836 to 1915. The family began plans to move to the island after the death of their mother in 1829. Both sisters were well known writers, spending much of their time in this home constructing some of their most memorable work.
The oldest part of the home is a large stone wall, left from a Revolutionary War Barracks built in 1775. In 1908, the home was purchased by Mr. Russell Sage. In 1915, the West Point Reservation was formed to preserve the home. A year later in 1916 after Anna Warner’s death, the Island Association officially took over the home.
The house now exists as a historic museum site, furnished with original family possessions and available for tours.
