Monument featuring three upright marble square stones with carved text on each. Stones placed atop marble rectangular structure.
The monument is located on the west lawn of the Hamilton County Courthouse in Hamilton, TX. It is dedicated to Whitney, a Hamilton schoolteacher who sacrificed her life to protect her students during a 1876 massacre on their school. The memorial was donated by the Riley-Gardener Memorial Company, and sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. It's official unveiling occurred on the opening day of Hamilton County's Centennial Celebration on July 1st, 1958.
