Two-story Second Empire style white house with mansard roof. Built in 1868.
Accompanying Aluminum square marker with rounded center at the top. Features white text on a black background.
The home is located on Highwood Avenue in Tenafly, NJ. It served as the residence to Stanton from 1869 to 1887. During this time, Stanton worked on writing the History of Woman Suffrage, attempted to vote, and helped draft the 19th Amendment.
The house was designated as a national historic landmark by the National Park Service in 1975. The historic plaque located on the site was later installed by the Tenafly Historic Preservation Committee. A local couple, Yang and Chang, purchased and completed much of the preservation of the home in the 2000s, reviving its mid-19th century elements.
