Biographical Text
-
Wood-frame white country style house. Built in the 1740s.
Pinckney was a resident of the Hampton Plantation House from 1758 to 1793. She lived there with her daughter Harriott during the Revolutionary War. Pinckney hosted a variety of individuals during her time there, including Patriots looking to evade British troops and in one instance, President George Washington. Pinckney endured many tragedies during this period, witnessing her sons in war and losing her personal home. This resulted in the Hampton House acting as her final place of living before her death in 1793. The house now stands as a historic museum site under ownership of the South Carolina State Park Service, sharing the stories of its residents.
