Biographical Text

Bronze statue depicting Ludington riding side saddle on a horse with her arm raised.
Aluminum historic marker with blue background and yellow lettering describing Ludington’s journey.
The statue is located in Carmel, New York, marking a spot on Ludington’s journey. It was based off of a drawing by Lorence F. Bjorklund. The statue was completed by Anna Vaughn Hyatt Huntington. Bjorklund’s original drawing depicted Ludington wearing pants, but Huntington’s statue has her depicted wearing a skirt and riding side saddle.
The statue was gifted to Putnam County in 1985. In 2026, the Daughters of the American Revolution donated $1,000 for the restoration of the statue and to support the “Saving Sybil” project.
