Italian-Renaissance style complex of glass greenhouses created with cast iron, steel, and glass.
The conservatory was built in 1902 by architect William R. Cobb under the greenhouse firm Lord & Burnham. It was built in the New York Botanical Gardens. Inspiration came from Joseph’s Crystal Palace which had been built in London’s Hyde Park about fifty years earlier. Haupt gave $5 million to restore the greenhouse.
Restoration of the dome occurs every twenty years, with the most recent being completed in 2020.
