Biographical Text
-
Two story, Victorian style yellow house with white trim.
The house was built in the 1880s. Eisenhower was born in Boone, Iowa, in 1896, yet did not live in the state for long. After her family lived in the house, it was occupied by various occupants until the 1960s, when it was bought by the nearby Baptist church to use as an expansion and rental property. In 1975, the property was offered by the church to the Trust Committee of Boone as a gift for preservation.
After the church was given to the Trust Committee of Boone, any extra additions were removed and the house was moved across the street to it’s original location. Over the next several years, the interior of the house was restored to how it would have looked in the 1890s, when Eisenhower lived in the house with her family. Many family heirlooms were donated to decorate the interior of the house.
