Alongside Earhart’s memorial statue are statues of several other aviators and astronauts including Charles Lindbergh, Jeana Yeager, the Wright brothers, and Sally Ride. The International Forest of Friendship was established in 1976 for the United State’s bicentennial. The goal of the forest, located in the city of Atchison (Earhart’s birthplace), was to achieve the goal of two sons of members of The Ninety Nines (International Organization of Women Pilots) to “world friendship through flight.”
