Biographical Text
-
White, wood-frame Gothic Revival style house.
The home was built by Earhart’s maternal grandfather, Alfred Otis. Earhart was born in this home in 1897 and lived here on and off until the eighth grade, considering the house to be her childhood home. The home had three different owners between 1918 and 1984.
The house was purchased in 1984 by The Ninety-Nines (an International Association for Women Pilots of which Earhart was president of and belonged to) thanks to a $10,000 donation by a local doctor. This led to the house becoming a museum of Earhart’s life and legacy. The museum is open to visitors Tuesday through Saturday.
