Biographical Text
-
Stone grave ledger describing Douglas’s life and her impact on shaping the legacy of her late husband, Frederick Douglas.
Douglas is buried next to her husband in Mount Hope Cemetery, in Rochester, New York. She originally wished to be buried on the site of Cedar Hill (the home of the Douglas family where she had established the Frederick Douglas Historical and Memorial Association) and have her husband reinterred from Rochester and buried next to her. However, laws surrounding burials in Washington D.C. made this complicated and impossible.
