Biographical Text
-
A 28 foot tall marble obelisk with a pioneer woman (representing Crockett) looking to the west with her hands shielding her eyes at the top. Also contains a grave ledger describing Crockett’s life and death.
The grave is located in Acton, Texas, where Crockett spent the last few years of her life. Today, her grave is known as Acton State Historic Site. It was once the smallest historic park in the state of Texas.
The obelisk portion of the monument was added in 1913. This came after a bill was introduced to the Texas legislature in 1911 to appropriate $2,000 to create the monument.
