Stone mausoleum of Chipeta.
Chipeta is buried in her ancestral homeland on the property of the Chief Ouray Historic Monument. This monument is on the property of the Ute Indian Museum, which is near the ranch that she and her husband, Chief Ouray, once owned. Alongside her husband, Chipeta is also buried with her brother, Chief John McCook.
After her death in 1924, Chipeta was originally buried on the Uinta Indian Reservation. In 1926 her remains, along with those of Chief Ouray, were reinterred and buried on Ute ancestral ground.
