Stone house built in the Italian Villa style of the late 19th century.
Construction on the house began in 1887 but was not finished due to financial reasons. Molly and her husband, James, bought the house in 1890 and completed construction by 1892. After Brown died in 1932, the house changed ownership several times. Throughout the 20th century, the interior of the house was altered drastically in order to serve as a lodging house. It was also leased to the city of Denver to serve as a Jane Addams Hull House for girls.
In the 1970s, there was a movement to preserve the historic house. In 1971, the house was established as the “Molly Brown House Museum”. The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Today, the museum is open throughout the week and offers guided tours with over 50,000 visitors per year. - Text
