Golda was Israel's first female prime minister. She was a powerful head of government. She immigrated to the United States in 1906 with her family. She graduated from the Milwaukee State Normal School and became a teacher. She was a part of the Labor Zionist movement. She moved to Palestine in 1921, and became the kibbutz's representative to the Histadrut. Golda was a signatory of the Israeli Declaration of Independence. She became a Labor Minister in 1949. She then was appointed as Foreign Minister in 1956. In 1969, Golda assumed the role of prime minister.
Golda married Morris Meyerson in 1893. They remained married until his death in 1951. Despite never divorcing, the couple grew apart over the course of their marriage. They had two children, her son Menachem, and her daughter Sarah. Golda died of lymphatic cancer at the age of 80 in 1978. She was buried in Jerusalem. - Bibliography
