Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson was born in Northern Ireland. She immigrated to America with her husband, Andrew Jackson and their two young sons, Hugh and Robert in 1765. Within a short period of time they had acquired around 200 acres of land in the southeast of the present city of Charlotte. Right after her husband passed away Elizabeth moved in with her sister and brother-in-law Jane and James Crawford. She raised her children and worked as a housemaid while caring for her infirmed sister Jane as a nurse. Elizabeth spent the last year of her life tending to soldiers on prison ships in Charleston Harbor.
Elizabeth married Andrew Jackson in 1761, they immigrated to America in 1765 and Andrew Jackson passed away in 1767. They had three children- Hugh, Robert, and Andrew Jackson Jr. Jackson Jr went on to become the seventh president of the United States. Elizabeth dies in 1781 after contracting Cholera on the prisoner ships. - Bibliography
