Biographical Text

Mary Ann McClintock was a notable abolitionist and suffragist. Born to John Williams and Elizabeth Pyle, McClintock was moved to social justice due to her Quaker upbringing. As an adult she relocated to Philadelphia from Waterloo, New York with her husband and children, where she became involved with local activist movements. She helped found the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society in 1833, and later helped organize the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, where she signed the Declaration of Sentiments.

McClintock was married to minister Thomas McClintock from 1820 until his death in 1875. They had five children named Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary Ann, Charles, and Julia.
