Glenna Goodacre was a sculptor best known for creating several American public monuments. She was born to a family of builders. Goodacre became interested in sculpture as a teenager when viewing Michelangelo's works during a trip to Europe. She initially pursued painting at Colorado College, but later studied sculpture at New York's Art Students League in 1967, then nearly 30. After completing her studies, she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1983. She would go on to create many busts, public works, and other bronze cast artworks, most notably the Women's Vietnam Memorial in 1993 and the backside of the Sacagawea dollar in 1999 . She won many awards for her work such as the 2003 Texas Medal Of Arts and 2005 New Mexico Governor's Award For Excellence in the Arts.
Goodman was initially married to William Goodacre, though she later married C.L. Mike Schmidt in 1995. She had two children, Tim and Jill. Goodman passed away at age 80 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, four years after retiring.
