Elizabeth Patton Crockett was a frontierswoman and among some of the first while settlers of Northern Texas. She was born in North Carolina in 1788. She married her cousin around 1809 and together they moved near Gibson, TN. The two were married until 1814 when he died fighting in the Creek Indian War. His friend, David Crockett, was asked to bring his possessions back to Elizabeth, his wife. Following this meeting, David and Elizabeth were wed the following year. They eventually moved to Acton, TX. David was away frequently and Elizabeth was integral to running his distillery until it was destroyed by a flood. She was widowed a second time in 1836 when David died in the Battle of the Alamo. A land grant for families who'd lost a man in the War permitted that she and her family start a farm in Texas, which Crockett led herself.
Crockett’s first husband was her cousin, James Patton. Her second husband was David Crockett, a friend of her first husband. She was David’s second wife. David and Elizabeth Crockett had three children- Robert, Rebecca, and Matilda. She died in 1860.
